However, in the early 1980s, Christopher Reeves became a human rights activist for environmental and artistic freedom of expression. On May 27, 1995, in Virginia. Reeve had an accident that broke his neck when he was thrown from a moving horse during an equestrian competition. The injury was so severe that it paralyzed his shoulder down to his thighs, which made him use a wheelchair and ventilator all his life.
After the accident, Reeve returned to his acting and creativity. He directed the movie “In the Glooming” and “Rare Window” both movies were directed between the year 1997-1998.
His accident made him more compassionate about those with different kinds of disabilities. Out of empathy, he researched spinal injury and human embryonic stem cell research for people who could be in his condition, including others with different disabilities. This could have been his motivation to create the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and the cofounding Reeve-Irvine Research center.
Unfortunately, On October 10, 2004, the actor Christopher Reeve died of heart failure at 52 in Westchester County, New York.
